Making room for How the Gospel is Moving
God has been growing our church family in beautiful ways, and we’re grateful. As more people find connection, faith, and community at CPC, we believe now is the right time to make more room for what God is already doing.
Beginning Sunday, February 22, CPC will move from two Sunday services to three.
This change isn't just about schedules or space. It's a step of faith. An invitation to keep our posture open to how the Gospel is moving in our church, our city, and the lives of people God is drawing here.
What's Changing
What: We’re adding a third Sunday worship service
When: Sunday, February 22
Why: To reach more people with the Gospel and make space for invitation, hospitality, connection, and growth
Our Contemporary service has been growing rapidly, especially among students, young couples, and young families. Along with that growth has come increasing demand for kids’ programming, parking, and space to welcome guests well. Adding a third service allows us to make more of what’s working so that more people can experience it.
There will be kids' programming at all three services.
Why We’re Taking
This Step
We believe God is always at work shaping lives, forming community, and inviting people into new beginnings. Expanding to three services is one way we’re choosing to join in.
This step will help us:
• Create space for more people to be invited and welcomed
• Strengthen hospitality for guests
• Make room for continued growth in Kids and Student ministries
• Open more opportunities to serve and connect on Sunday mornings
How You Can Be
Part of It
Moving to three services will take all of us.
We invite everyone at CPC to:
• Attend one service and consider serving or connecting at another
• Pray for openness, unity, and faith as we step into this change
• Engage by welcoming others, inviting friends, and stepping into a serving role
As part of our Year of Invitation, this is a meaningful moment to ask: How might God be inviting me to help make space for others?
Take a next step in servingUpdates to Sunday Communities
A Sunday community is an open gathering where people can come as they are and when they are available. They engage in structured teaching followed by discussion and processing. Larger than a small group and organized by age or life stage, it meets Sundays at 10AM at CPC and fosters a spirit of invitation, a place to belong, and ongoing connection through socials, small groups, and a supportive leadership team.
Starting on February 22, each community’s name will be its age or stage:
• 20s-30s (Room 200)
• Young Parents (Fireside)
• 30s and Beyond (201/202)
• 50s and Beyond (Room 10)
• 65 and Beyond (Fellowship Hall)
• Senior Adults (Fellowship Hall)
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Would you consider a Sunday evening service? Even one that’s a replica of the Sunday 11AM service?
A: Though Sunday evening services have had success at CPC in the past, it isn’t a great solution for our current growth. We cannot predict how current growth would translate into Sunday nights in 2025, and, because so much of our growth is with families with children, we would need to pull off a full-fledged children’s ministry program to make Sunday night a viable option for growth.
Q: Would you consider a Saturday evening service?
A: CPC’s Saturday night service was originally created for overflow reasons and ended in 2020 with an average attendance of under 100 at the time. Similar to a Sunday night option, this would require a significant investment in kids ministry at a time of the weekend that has no track record of interest with our growing demographic. We don’t want to just move some people out of Sunday mornings, we want to invest in ways we believe will continue to grow and expand.
Q: Would we consider making the existing 9AM service a Contemporary service and eliminate traditional worship?
A: Traditional worship is essential to CPC’s identity and we intend to continue to make space for a traditional worship service.
Q: When the kids leave worship, there’s often extra room. Why not just have kids programming start at the same time as worship and not have them in the sanctuary?
A: With a long term view of children’s discipleship in mind, we think it’s important that they both learn what it looks like to worship in a multigenerational setting, as well as witness their parents and other adults worshipping together. This is a unique thing for CPC, and moving kids out of worship altogether could eliminate a strength. Also, it would free up space in the sanctuary but doesn’t change the problem of capacity for kids ministry with two Sunday services.
Q: Why not use the growing momentum to send some people out and start a new church or add a satellite campus?
A: While we do have a desire to plant a church in the future, that step wouldn’t address the challenges we’re facing right now, nor would it do so in a timely manner. In many cases, church planting actually leads to growth in the sending church, so we’d still likely need to add a third service to make space. A satellite campus could also be an option down the road, but at this point we don’t have a large group living far enough from CPC to make that sustainable without detracting from our current Sunday experience.
Q: What about the use of overflow space in Westview, Fellowship Hall, or the Chapel?
A: While using overflow space would allow us to accommodate more people and not change our schedule, overflow spaces don’t allow people to experience us at our best. Overflow rooms also don't help make space in the kids program or the parking lot.
Q: What about a staggered or simultaneous service in Westview?
A: Unfortunately, the Westview space holds a max of 275 and doesn’t allow for a Contemporary worship band that’s comparable to what is experienced in the sanctuary. This option creates other complexities, such as sound bleed between spaces and how to arrange kids ministry and adult communities.
Q: When does the new schedule start?
A: Sunday, February 22, 2026
Q: How can I help?
A: We would love it if you'd consider serving on a Sunday morning as we grow. We need everyone’s help in making space for more people.
