Meet the Class of 2029 Noimated Elders.

Eric Johnson
Molly and I have been part of CPC since 1992, when we first began attending together before we were married. Over the years, our life of faith within this community has been deeply transformative, truly the most impactful experience we have shared as a couple and as followers of Christ.

I previously had the privilege of serving as a Deacon and currently serve as the captain of an usher team during the 10:00AM Contemporary Service. These opportunities have allowed me to witness firsthand the strength, generosity, and spirit of this church family.

I am honored to take this next step in my faith journey as an Elder and humbled by the opportunity to serve CPC, its staff, and its members in this role. Like so many in our congregation, I remain open to how the Gospel is moving among us and am excited to see what God has in store for our community.

In 2016, I got married at CPC, where my husband’s faith in Jesus blossomed throughout his childhood. I endearingly waved goodbye to CPC after saying our vows, little knowing that this space would quickly become one of many new beginnings and exponential growth for my family and me. My husband, Gentry, and I made CPC our church home in 2020 after moving our family to Edina, just two years after I joined Mom’s Morning when our daughter was born. My primary role as a stay-at-home mother for the last eight years left me yearning for deep connection and community, and I have found just that here.

I have served with women on the Mom’s Morning leadership team for five years and served as the ministry’s small group coordinator this past year. As we face challenges in life and celebrate blessings too, we have the opportunity to be stretched and grown as children of God. When I have shown up with open hands and heart, I have experienced the expansiveness of God over and over again. I can’t imagine navigating life without Jesus and am humbled by the love He has shown my family at CPC, both my husband and me, as well as our three children. I desire to be an extension of this love and consider it an honor to serve Jesus alongside the CPC community.

My relationship with CPC began many years ago during my undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota, when my friends and I would occasionally attend Sunday worship services here. Fast forward almost two decades, and my wife, Elizabeth, and I had moved back to Minnesota. We settled in Edina with our three kids, looking for a church community where all of us could grow, and I was again drawn to CPC.

What drew us in were the people, the community, and the opportunity to worship alongside friends and neighbors. What initially seemed like a big church quickly felt much smaller and more intimate. Having moved five times across four different countries throughout our marriage, it reflected how Elizabeth and I had continually seen God use His church in our lives as a place of welcome and an extension of grace, regardless of location.

Since committing to CPC as our church home, we have deepened our roots here by volunteering in various capacities, becoming members, and seeing our two oldest children go through Commitment Class. I am both humbled and excited to serve as an Elder at CPC, contributing in some small way to the work of the body of Christ here in Edina and through the windows to the rest of the world.

Seong Shusta
Jesus has been a constant in my life, and over time, I’ve come to know Him more deeply. Like any relationship, there have been seasons of closeness and moments when I’ve pulled away. Yet, I’m continually reminded that everything I have, including the people I love, is by His grace.

My husband, Jeff Shusta, and I joined CPC in 2011 after moving from California. As our faith and family have grown, CPC has become a place of welcome, honesty, and rest through worship, teaching, and community. Sometimes it’s also an ugly-cry room. It nudges us out of our shell and, at other times, feels like a quiet bench or a dinner table. People have made it a place where we belong.

I am grateful for how CPC has shaped our family through small groups, deacon service, and opportunities for connection. It’s an honor to serve alongside our leaders and this community, helping care for a church that makes space for people to move and be moved.
